Textured Stamping, Gwen Thorpe
This is fun to do, a bit messy, but I loved the results.
Step 1
Take a piece of strong card about 2” x 2.5”, mount board would be just fine. Cut a piece of kitchen towel or cheap toilet roll slightly larger than your card.
Step 2
Brush an ample layer of PVA glue onto the card, thick and even. Now take the paper and lay it carefully over the PVA’d card. *Tissue paper will not work because it will not stretch.
Step 3
Take your DRY stamp and press it down firmly onto the paper and card for a few seconds to make the impression. Lift and wash your stamp immediately as the glue will have seeped through the tiny holes in the paper. Leave the paper in place on the card.
Step 4
Now take a steel ruler and using the edge press an outline around your stamped image.
Step 5
Put the card with your stamped image on a tile or glass place mat or something similar in a warm room to dry, overnight would be best. When dry apply a thin coat of PVA glue over the image and leave to dry again, this makes it easier to paint and gives it a nicer finish after painting.
Step 6
Once thoroughly dry, trim the edges, and paint, I used DecoArt Ocean Pearls which are very inexpensive and leaves a lovely pearly finish, you can also paint using H20s.
Step 7
Now take a clear ink pad and swipe it across your raised image, I then used Gold embossing powder, (silver works too), and heat with your heat gun.
It has taken me much longer to explain this technique, than to actually do, except for the waiting to dry time. Try experimenting with different stamps, colours and embossing powders. Add gems glitter etc, as desired.
Happy Crafting. Gwen Thorpe xxx
Masking Tape Technique, Wendy McGlinchey
Materials
Masking tape (any width)
Glossy card
Two or three contrasting dye ink pads
Step 1
Tear a piece of masking tape to stretch across your ink pad. Working from light to dark, grab one end and pop the centre of the tape into the first ink pad quite firmly to transfer the ink to the tape.
Step 2
Grabbing the tape with both hands place onto the cardstock and press firmly in the centre, now take the tape off the cardstock in one ripping movement.
Step 3
There should be enough ink to use again before adding extra ink onto the tape. Use the same piece again for more inkings; change your tape when you change colour. Continue to move the inked tape around the card stock.
Step 4
Using a new piece of tape for each colour, continue doing this with the remaining colours, working from light to dark.
Step 5
Once you are happy with what you see us it as a background piece and stamp directly onto it.
Finished Card
The card has been finished off with a stamped TandaStamps image which has then been mounted and stuck to your base card. Stamp used is from Retro Women Set 2.
Chalk Dragging Technique, Wendy McGlinchey
This is a very simple technique and uses only minimal supplies of which most people have in their stash.
Materials
Scrap paper
Card
Chalk
Paintbrush
Steps 1 & 2
Tear your scrap paper down the longest edge leaving a nice uneven and jagged tear. Using your finger add some chalk along the jagged edge of the scrap paper.
Steps 3 & 4
Place your chalked scrap piece onto the far edge of your card. With your finger drag the chalk from the edge of the scrap paper onto your card stock in a straight motion.
Steps 5 & 6
Move your scrap paper across the card at regular or irregular intervals, re-chalking the edge of the scrap paper as and when needed, pushing the chalk with you finger onto your card as before.
Steps 7 & 8
Carry on moving across the card transferring the chalk. If using more than one colour go lightest to darkest. Use the same piece of scrap paper - there is no need to change paper as you change colours.
Finishing Off
When you have gone the distance of your card - use a paintbrush to drag the chalk all the way across your card.
You can set if with a fixing spray (hairspray) - this is optional but makes an interesting background.
The buffalo stamp is from Native American Indian Set 1.
You can also stamp directly onto it if you so wish as shown in the pink card. Stamp used is from Flowers Set 1.
